The ancient chemical reaction of 4 billion years ago in modern cells

Part of July 30, according to media reports, according to the University of East Anglia scientists say, the birth of the primordial soup of life is held to in our cells today.

The ancient chemical reaction of 4 billion years ago in modern cells

Recently, a study published in the Journal of Biochemistry revealed that cells, yeast, and the same ancient reactions in animals are thought to have been responsible for the origin of life, about four billion years ago.

The original soup theory believes that life originates from a pond or a combination of ocean and non-metallic elements, gases in the atmosphere and some form of energy, such as lightning strikes, forming the underlying proteins that subsequently evolve into all species.

The new study shows how a small pocket cell, called the mitochondria, now reacts similarly in our bodies. These reactions, including iron, sulfur and electrochemistry, remain important functions, just as animal respiration and plant photosynthesis are as important.

Doctor of Biological Sciences and principal investigator John Innes Centre of Janneke Balk University of East Anglia said: "The cells will limit certain hazardous chemicals in a specific compartment."

"For example, some small pocket cells called mitochondria are electrochemically treated and toxic sulfur compounds. These ancient reactions are important for the origin of life."

"Our research shows that a toxic sulfur compound is transported by mitochondria to other parts of the cell. We need sulfur to make iron-sulfur catalysts, which is another very old chemical process.

"This work shows that part of the original soup of life was preserved today in our cells and is actually used to maintain important biological responses.

The study was conducted by the University of East Anglia and the Joint Intelligence Committee in collaboration with Dr. Hendrik Van Wein of the University of Cambridge, with research in biotechnology and bioscience. The council provides financial support.
