Japan's new purification device can turn urine into drinking water this autumn in the international space

According to a report on the Asahi Shimbun website, the Japan Aerospace Research and Development Agency (JAXA) announced on the 24th at the JAXA Tsukuba Cosmic Center in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, a water regeneration device to be tested at the International Space Station (ISS) this fall. This device can be used to purify the urine of astronauts and make it into potable water.

This water treatment device was jointly developed by JAXA and Kurita Industries, which can effectively remove organic matter and ions in urine, and can purify 0.8 liters of drinking water every day. The device uses electricity to decompose organic matter in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment, which effectively improves efficiency compared with the original distillation purification method.

JAXA director research developer Matsumoto Satoshi said: "Our ultimate goal is to develop a device that can guarantee the purification of 7.2 liters of drinking water from the urine of four astronauts every day, and hope to achieve it by 2025." (Compilation: Yuan Mongolian reviewer: Chen Jianjun)
