Aluminium Queensland Alumina Project Plan Passes Preliminary Examination

Sydney News: Prime Minister Peter Betty of Queensland said last week that Chinalco’s plan to invest A$2.92 billion (approximately US$2.17 billion) in the development of Aurukun, a large aluminum mine in York, has passed the Queensland Government’s Preliminary review. It is reported that, in addition to building a bauxite mine, Chinalco’s preliminary plan also includes the construction of a new washing plant in Aolukun and the construction of an alumina plant on the eastern coast of Queensland.
Betty said the state government of Queensland also invited Chinalco to submit a final plan and sign an agreement with the state government in the next stage of bidding.

It is reported that a total of ten companies have participated in the competitive bidding process. Other companies mainly include BHP Billiton, Mitsubishi, Dorsey Valley, Norwegian Hydro, Aluminium, Russian West-Ukraine Aluminum, and Canadian Aluminum. Wait.

It is reported that Chinalco’s plan is to produce 7.5 million tons of bauxite per year, with an annual alumina production capacity of approximately 2.1 million tons. At present, Chinalco mainly considers building alumina plants in Bowen, Townsville or Gladstone.

Betty said that Chinalco will soon complete its preliminary project research report and submit its final development plan by the end of May this year. If it meets the requirements of various parties and is approved by all parties, Chinalco will be selected as the preferred company to invest in the project.
